For the Swedish guitarist Mathias Holm’s solo material we plunge back into the past to 1996 when he released his first album “Pictures Of A Dream”. In 2010 he also released an album with Swedish prog metal band Mindsplit (also featuring members from Madison, Jade, Scudiero/Fatal Smile), but since then little has been heard. Until now. "Dream Catch" starts where “Pictures of a Dream” left off, with a collection of melodic, instrumental guitar music. In 2010 he also released an album with Swedish prog metal band Mindsplit (also featuring members from Madison, Jade, Scudiero/Fatal Smile), but since then little has been heard. In 2017 Mathias Holm released another solo album entitled “Dream Catch" and now the axeman he’s back with the new edition in digital formats, of his first release, via Lion Music.
“Pictures of a Dream” is a neoclassical instrumental work contained sixteen tracks
Mathias has a great style and his sound is results powerful since the album’ beginning with the opener “Voyage” and just as a journey is this album.
We can listen again to excellent songs such as “Acoustic Mind “ or the enchanting “Sea Of Mirrors” and it’s just this song ne of the highlight of this album, a piece in which Mathias as well as proving to be an excellent multifaceted guitarist, can give emotions by showing their composite skills.
Just listen to "The Tables Of Testimony" to realize the extraordinary skill in guitar phrasing to be able to understand how already exemplified this album in 1996.
Almost in lounge style the track "When I’m With You" while in closing, with "Day Of Silence" Mathias gives us a track in which his guitar ranges between different musical waves with almost epic references, a powerful sound and melody, in short, you could say that the last track contains an assemblage of styles that characterize the album.
"Pictures of a Dream" struck me very much when it came out and listening to it again now I admit it has a nostalgic effect on me, in any way I find that this album by Mathias is a complex and fascinating work.
